How often do you sit back and identify what really matters?

“Real balance often comes about when you feel that you’re living a life that has purpose and meaning and when you feel you have enough time and space in your life for most (if not all) of the things that really matter”.
I love this definition of balance by Kate James.
The Little eco footprints household was chaotic during February. Way too chaotic. We found ourselves with too many commitments and have consequently each spent much of the month overwhelmed, exhausted or sick.
Things have to change.
I have spent much of the last few weeks thinking about 'the things that really matter' and making changes to simplify my commitments. I've sadly been dropping projects left right and centre. I dropped out of a solar oven cookbook I was supposed to be working on with Heather. I dropped out of helping Kate with the farm birthday parties she's starting. I offloaded a banner I was supposed to be working on for Transition Newcastle. I decided not to apply for the Earth Hour Eco blogger award. And there's a handful of other projects and commitments I've abandoned. I truly wanted to do each and every one of these projects.
The problem was that I was wanting to do too much.
I've realised wanting to do too much is almost as toxic as wanting too much stuff.
I definitely didn't feel like I had 'enough time and space in my life for most (if not all) of the things that really matter'.
I have to stop thinking that everything is important and choose what 'really matters'.
How often do you sit back and identify what really matters? Do you have any hints for differentiating between things that 'matter' and things that 'really matter'.
p.s For those of you in Newcastle, there's a Raid My Wardrobe this Sunday. There's also an upcoming Raid My Wardrobe in Sydney. Do you have a wardrobe that needs un-cluttering? Book a stall now to sell your treasures at the Sydney Raid My Wardrobe event.
